Dryer Vent Cleaning

If your dryer needs two cycles to finish a load, the vent line is the first thing to check, not the dryer. Clothes come out warm and damp, and the laundry room feels like a sauna. Nine times out of ten in Atlanta homes, the duct is packed with lint and the moisture has nowhere to go.

What a clogged vent quietly does to your dryer

Lint builds a felt lining inside the duct, so air slows down. The dryer keeps heating, but the wet air can't leave, which means moisture stays in the drum and the cycle runs long. That heat has to go somewhere. It backs into the cabinet and cooks the thermal parts, the heating element and the control board. High-limit switches start tripping, and bearings and belts dry out sooner. In our humid summers the trapped moisture also breeds mildew inside the duct, which is where that damp smell in fresh laundry comes from. Long runs to a roof cap make it worse, and a lot of Atlanta houses have exactly that.

The two-minute habit that prevents most of it

Pull the lint screen every single load. Not most loads. Then once a month, hold the screen under running water. If water pools on top instead of running through, fabric softener and dryer sheet residue have sealed the mesh. Scrub it with a soft brush and dish soap, rinse, dry it fully, put it back. While you're there, look behind the dryer: the flex hose should curve, not kink or crush against the wall. Step outside and check the vent hood too. During pollen season that flap gets gummed up fast, and a flap that won't open sends everything back inside.

How often the whole duct needs cleaning

Once a year is the baseline for a typical household. Push it to every six months if you dry more than five loads a week, have a long duct run, vent through the roof, or share the house with a shedding dog. Short straight runs to a side wall can sometimes stretch past a year. Clean after any big change too: a new dryer, a remodel that moved the duct, or a stretch where you ran the dryer hard. Note the month on your phone so it doesn't drift. Metro drive times being what they are, book before laundry piles up. us works for scheduling.

Signs prevention time already passed

Watch for clothes that are damp after a full cycle, a burning or hot-lint smell, the dryer shutting off mid-cycle then restarting later, a cabinet top too hot to rest your hand on, or no air puffing from the outside hood while the dryer runs. Lint collecting on the floor behind the machine is another one, and so is a laundry room that gets muggy every time you dry. Any of these means the duct is restricted now, and running more loads only adds heat stress. Stop using the dryer for heavy loads and get the line cleared. Call us and describe what you're seeing.

What we check when we come out

We start at the outside hood and work back, because that's where most blockages sit. We clear the duct with rotary brushes and pull the buildup out rather than push it deeper, then measure airflow at the vent so there's a before and after. Next we look at the transition hose for kinks, crushing, or the old foil type that traps lint. If the dryer itself still runs long after the line is clear, that points to a heating or sensor problem, and we test from there. You'll get a plain answer on which it is.

Dryer Vent Cleaning — fast answers

Can I clean the dryer vent myself?

Short runs to a side wall, often yes, with a brush kit from a hardware store. Roof vents and long runs through walls are harder to reach and easy to damage. Skip anything that means climbing or opening the dryer cabinet.

Does a gas dryer need it more often?

Same schedule, higher stakes. A blocked vent on a gas dryer can push combustion gases back into the room. Never work on gas connections yourself. If you smell gas, leave the house and call your utility.

My dryer is new and already drying slow. Why?

Usually the duct, not the dryer. New machines get installed onto old ducting, and installers sometimes crush the flex hose pushing the unit back into place. Check behind it first, then have the line inspected.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call us or fill out the form. Describe what the machine is doing: the noise, the smell, the error code. Brand and rough age help us load the right parts.

  2. Step 2

    We schedule a window

Metro Atlanta traffic is real, so we book arrival windows that hold up. You get a heads-up before the technician rolls out, and we work around your day where routes allow.

  3. Step 3

    Diagnose, then repair

The technician tests the unit, finds the failed part, and explains what's wrong in plain words. You approve the work before anything gets replaced. Most common parts ride on the van.

Why homeowners call us

  • Built for Southern humidityDamp air punishes appliances. Dryers take longer, gaskets grow mildew, ice makers sweat and freeze up. We see these patterns weekly, so we check for them instead of chasing the obvious part first.
  • Pollen-season know-howSpring coats every condenser coil in yellow film. A fridge that struggles in April often just can't shed heat. We clean it, test airflow, and tell you what actually failed versus what was choked.
  • Six states, one teamGeorgia and the states around it. Same intake and same diagnostic approach whether you're inside the Perimeter or two hours out, with the same clear explanation at the end. One call reaches the whole service area.
