Dryer Taking Two Cycles
You start a load of towels, come back an hour later, and they're still damp. So you run it again. Now laundry day takes all afternoon. The dryer isn't dead, so it's easy to ignore. But two cycles for one load means heat is going in and moisture isn't coming out. That's almost always airflow, and in Atlanta's humidity it gets worse fast.

What Long Dry Times Actually Tell You
A dryer works by heating air, pushing it through the clothes, and dumping the wet air outside. If that last part is slow, moisture stays in the drum. Clothes get hot but stay damp. You may notice the laundry room feels muggy, or the outside of the dryer is hot to the touch. Some machines shut off early on a moisture sensor and leave a load half dry. Others run the full timer and still fail. Either way, the heat is usually fine. The exhaust path is the problem. That's why we start at the vent, not the control board.
Cause One: A Clogged or Crushed Vent Line
This is the most common and the cheapest to fix. Lint builds up in the duct behind the dryer and along the run to the outside wall. In older intown homes the run can be long, with several elbows, or it may dump into a crawlspace. Flexible foil duct gets crushed when the dryer is pushed back against the wall. Pollen season adds another layer: the outside flap and screen can pack with lint plus tree debris until the damper barely opens. A blocked line traps heat and moisture in the drum. It also raises fire risk, which is why we don't put this off.
Cause Two: Lint Trap and Blower Issues
Fabric softener sheets leave a film on the lint screen. Air can't pass, even though the screen looks clean. Run water over it; if it pools instead of draining through, wash it with dish soap and a brush. Below the screen, the lint housing collects a felt mat that a vacuum hose can reach. Deeper in, the blower wheel moves the air. If it's caked or a fin is broken, airflow drops and you hear a change in pitch or a rattling flutter. That part is behind panels, so leave it to us.
Cause Three: Weak Heat or a Failing Sensor
If the vent checks out, we look at heat and sensing. An electric dryer with one failed heating element leg makes warm air instead of hot air, so cycles double. Gas dryers can short-cycle on a weak igniter or a flame sensor. Moisture sensor bars inside the drum get coated with softener residue and read clothes as dry when they aren't. Thermostats that trip early on high heat also cut cycles short. These checks involve meters, panels, and gas components. We handle them. Please don't open the cabinet yourself.
Safe Checks You Can Do, and What We Do Next
Unplug the dryer first. Pull the lint screen and test it with water. Look behind the machine for a kinked or squashed duct. Step outside and watch the vent hood while a load runs; you should feel a steady, warm push of air. If it's a weak trickle, you found it. Try one load without dryer sheets. Don't overload the drum. From there, we measure airflow and static pressure, scope the duct run, read element and thermostat resistance, check gas ignition, and clean the blower housing. Then we test a full cycle with a moisture reading. Call us and tell us how long a load takes.
Dryer Taking Two Cycles — quick answers
Can a clogged vent hurt the dryer itself?
Yes. Trapped heat cooks thermostats, fuses, and the heating element. Many replaced parts fail again within months because nobody cleaned the duct. Fixing airflow protects the repair and lowers fire risk.
How often should the vent be cleaned in Atlanta?
Roughly once a year for most homes. Long duct runs, big families, and pet hair push that shorter. Spring pollen can pack an exterior vent hood on its own, so check the flap after pollen season.
Is foil flex duct the problem?
Often, yes. Thin foil crushes easily and its ridges catch lint. Rigid or semi-rigid metal duct with short, gentle bends moves air far better. We can advise on the run during the visit.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call us or fill out the form. Describe what the machine is doing: the noise, the smell, the error code. Brand and rough age help us load the right parts.
- Step 2
We schedule a window
Metro Atlanta traffic is real, so we book arrival windows that hold up. You get a heads-up before the technician rolls out, and we work around your day where routes allow.
- Step 3
Diagnose, then repair
The technician tests the unit, finds the failed part, and explains what's wrong in plain words. You approve the work before anything gets replaced. Most common parts ride on the van.

Questions worth asking any repair company
Ask these of anyone you let into your home — us included. Call and we'll answer all five before you book anything.
- 1Ask for their license numberThen verify it with your state licensing board rather than taking it on trust.
- 2Ask for proof of insuranceLiability cover protects you if something goes wrong in your home.
- 3Get the quote in writingIncluding the trip fee, whether it's credited against the repair, and parts.
- 4Ask how they handle callbacksIf the same fault returns, what happens? Get the answer before work begins.

Why homeowners call us
- Built for Southern humidityDamp air punishes appliances. Dryers take longer, gaskets grow mildew, ice makers sweat and freeze up. We see these patterns weekly and check for them instead of chasing the obvious part first.
- Pollen-season know-howSpring coats every condenser coil in yellow film. A fridge that struggles in April often just can't shed heat. We clean, test airflow, and tell you what actually failed versus what was choked.
- Six states, one teamGeorgia and the states around it. Same intake, same diagnostic approach, same clear explanation whether you're inside the Perimeter or two hours out. One call reaches the whole service area.
